After 14 months of planning and development, the 2017 Hawai‘i Agricultural Conference (AG2017) was convened August 29-30, 2017 at the Hawai‘i Convention Center with a total of 574 registered participants; 49 sponsors; 30 exhibitors; and 72 speakers in 2 keynotes and 22 breakout sessions. Hosted by the Agriculture Leadership Foundation of Hawaii, this event has been considered the premiere all-agriculture conference since 2002 (Read about past conferences).
Past Hawai‘i Agriculture Conferences have pushed and expanded the horizons of businesses and decision-makers alike. Over the course of 15 years, topics and content ranged from agri-tourism to internet sales; entrepreneurial business skills and the power of local markets; agricultural theft and biofuels; to the continuing evolution of Hawaii’s agriculture sector. The 2017 conference theme
For the 2017 conference, a diverse planning team of agricultural stakeholders including producers, aggregators, landowners, educators and non-profit administrators worked to plan the conference which focused on the following themes:
Our $300 Ag Million Opportunity – Replacing just 10% of the food Hawai’i currently imports could generate $188 million in sales, $94 million for farmers, and create 2,300 jobs.
Support Your Local Farms and Ranches – Support Your Local Farms and Communities: Demand for locally grown products are on the rise, yet re-establishing local food systems has never been more challenging.
Sustain Our ʻĀina – For Future Generations: If we take care of the land, the land takes care of us. Hawai’i is on the front lines of climate change. We could be a world leader in sustainable food and energy production.
