Early morning arrival at UH Mānoa’s Cooperative Extension Service Office on Maui and met with Cynthia Reeves, County Administrator for CTAHR. It has been about 3 months since we saw each other and catching up with everyone while getting quick breakfast.
They said every good leader needs to negotiate, but doesn’t have to do it yourself. Peter gave us the essentials of what we need to know on negotiation with some fun exercises.
After a short drive up Country, we met up Mike Zelko, Manager of S.E.E. Research and Development Farm.
Super interesting co-op farming idea, farmers get to work and stay while earning a decent wages. It sounds like a Cadillac version of WWOOF program.
The drive to ʻUlupalakua Ranch was sick. Oh. Yeah. Literally people were almost getting car sick from the 45 minute of beautiful twisting and winding in our spaceship looking rental van.
Sumner Erdman from ALP Class V gave us an awesome overview of the past and present ʻUlupalakua Ranch (ALP Class IV). ʻUlupalakua Ranch is Maui’s second largest cattle ranch, sprawling across 18,000 acres of land that begins at the ocean and rises to 6,000 ft elevation. Adjacent to the ranch is Maui’s only winery, where met the current owner, Paula Hegele, President of MauiWine.
Sunset dinner at the ranch, hosted by MauiWine. Chef Will and his crews provided us with delicious local dinner. BIG MAHALO to Paula and Joe Hegele for their generous hospitality!
